Artist's Comments

This is an acrylic painting.
24 x 30 inches.

Snowy Owls were frequent visitors to our family farm, just outside of Winnipeg City in Manitoba Canada. I would try to observe them on my frequent outings, but they are quite wary. They often would sit on a favorite perch like this, watching for movememt and a potential meal.

Occasionally I would see a kill from a distance through binoculars and after the bird left I would go to investigate and try to determine exactly what had happened.

This is a female specimen, with these prominent black spots, the males have much smaller spots and are sometimes almost pure white. As with most birds of prey, the female is significantly larger than the male.

I'm very pleased that this painting has recieved a DD.
Thank you to the whole DA community.

Today I visited the owner of the original painting and as promised, here is a better picture of the painting. Hope you all enjoy.

Ghost of Winter - SNowy Owl by ~CitizenOlek is a well balanced piece picturing a an elegant bird at rest. The ruffled feathers and alert eyes make this image seem like the owl is peering back at you and is ready to take flight at a moments notice. Snowy Owls are often seen around Winnipeg City.
And they were frequent visitors to our family farm.

I noticed that you too live in Canada, man are we being hammered by the Ice Devil this year.

See that one thing I never see here. We've got a few bald eagles and I've seen the Great Horned Owl's a couple of times but those are really the only large birds of prey we've got in the area.

I know! lol I'm just happy I live in Calgary where I am currently enjoying a chinook. Sorry for you -40 weather! If its any consolation the whole city is preparing for the flood from the snow melting.

I think that chinook is supposed to be heading our way.
We're in need of a break.

Most of your work reminds me of the American artist Andrew Wyeth's work.

This painting is beautiful!

Thanks!
I'm familiar with Andrew Wyeth's work.
In fact I have a book on N.C. Wyeth, Adrew's father, and another featuring N.C., Andrew and James Wyeth, 3 generations of painters.

lol chinook's are always good :D
