Copying is so easy, after all, all the important decisions have been made for you - the composition and design, lighting, details... and it becomes a huge temptation for beginners to only copy. I've had this experience myself - I make 10 drawings: 9 are from my head, totally original in content and they come out let's say as 4 out-of 10. The last one I just copy from another artist or a photograph and it has all the appearance of a 9.5 out-of 10. Whoa! Everyone comments how great it is, etc.. Very Tempting to continue on that track.
They make students copy pictures in Art Class. It has it's purpose, you might learn as you are copying about the use of light, the subtle effects of relected light, composition, etc... but try to remember it is copying.
Find your own voice, your own style, you'll see those 4's become 5's then 6's ... and hopefully if you apply yourself you will create a 9.5 one day.
Keep trying everyone!
